Bedload transport and dune bedforms characteristics in sand-bed rivers supplying a retreating beach of the northern Adriatic Sea (Italy)

چکیده
The coast of the Emilia-Romagna Region in northern Italy consists about 210 km sandy beaches that have been attracting tourists for decades. Since 1980s, erosion processes resulted a remarkable beach retreat, notwithstanding construction several protections works. In 2005–2006 and 2017–2020, 30 floods two small rivers feeding Ravenna, Fiumi Uniti Savio, were monitored bedload was measured with Helly-Smith sampler. Riverbed bathymetric surveys carried out after some selected to investigate occurrence geometry alluvial bedforms. dune migration method also used calculate bedload. Results provided by this are very encouraging. To authors knowledge, field investigation on transport coastal is first one kind Adriatic provides regional land managers useful tool predict yield future scientifically based interventions, hopefully successful, protection data indicate higher variability discharges lower than bankfull flow, whereas stronger control discharge evident larger floods. Though study proved be largest river Region, it rather low witnesses sediment supply-limited conditions.

Beach dune sand hydrophobicity due to the presence of beach vitex ( Vitex rotundifolia L. f.).
Conservation and preservation concerns have led to efforts to understand mechanisms of invasiveness and the effects these mechanisms have on the environment. Vitex rotundifolia L. f. [beach vitex (BV)] was introduced as a salt-tolerant woody ground cover, but it has since become invasive on primary and secondary dunes in coastal areas of the southeastern United States. Much of its invasive pote...
متن کاملTrophic Conditions in the Waters of the Venice Lagoon (Northern Adriatic Sea, Italy)
Data on nutrient concentrations and environmental parameters, recorded in the waters of the entire Venice lagoon (165 sites) in July 2003 and in two stations monthly sampled for two years (from April 1994 to March 1995 and from January to December 2005), are reported in order to compare the trophic conditions with the past situation. In summer 2003 the dissolved inorganic nitrogen varied betwee...
متن کاملHarmful Algae Records in Venice Lagoon and in Po River Delta (Northern Adriatic Sea, Italy)
A detailed review of harmful algal blooms (HAB) in northern Adriatic Sea lagoons (Po River Delta and Venice lagoon) is presented to provide "updated reference conditions" for future research and monitoring activities. In the study areas, the high mollusc production requires the necessity to identify better methods able to prevent risks for human health and socioeconomical interests. So, an inte...
متن کاملUncertainties in Evaluation of the Sediment Transport Rates in Typical Coarse-Bed Rivers in Iran
Flow and sediment transport processes are different and more complex in coarse-bed rivers than in sand-bed rivers. The main goal of the present study is to evaluate different modes of sediment transport using different hydrometric and hydraulic methods, and to address the major uncertainties. Four river reaches were selected as representatives of coarse-bed rivers in the Northwest of Iran. A se...
متن کاملDune Widths in Titan’s Belet Sand Sea Reveal Patterns in Dune Formation and Stability
Introduction: Eolian dune fields found within Ti-tan's equatorial region between +30° latitude cover approximately 15-17% of the moon's surface [1]. These dominantly linear dunes are similar in form, size, and radar reflectivity to the large dunes of the Namib, Saharan, Saudi Arabian, and Australian deserts [2][3]. Earth analog studies indicate that the presence of linear dunes suggests adequat...
